The first vineyards were planted in Le Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 1157 under the direction of the bishop of Avignon. In the XIII century village of Chateauneuf populated by 1,000 people, has already had a beautiful vineyard area of 300 hectares. In 1308 Pope Clement V breaks new vineyards here. But the greatest contribution to the development and reputation of Chateauneuf introduced by Pope John XXII, who later bequeathed him a prestigious name “Vin du Pape”. John XXII also built the famous castle of Chateauneuf, who for many years was the papal summer residence.
“Croix de Bois” – a beautiful wine that deserves its place in the category of famous wines of Chateauneuf. This odnosortovoe wine is made from grapes Grenache growing on typical Chateauneuf-du-Pape soils, consisting of a large quartzite pebbles and sandy red clay. Typically, the grapes ripen in late September. Grenache is harvested by hand and vinified in closed vats. The aging process takes place in oak barrels for 14-16 months. “Croix de Bois” can be stored for more than 15 years. “Wine Advocate” wrote about this wine: “It is not as dense as the” Croix de Bois “of 2005, but perfectly clean and very seductive.”
